Information
in the Service of Society
For more than 100 years, the International
Federation for Information and Documentation (FID) has played a leading
role in developing information and documentation techniques and services,
and promoting the interests of information specialists and users worldwide.
Today, with institutional and individual members in some 90 countries,
FID is recognized as a leader among international, non-governmental organizations
concerned with information and documentation activities throughout the
world.
FID Members include national and international
libraries and documentation centres, professional associations of information
specialists, and scientific and technical information centres. Individual
members come from a wide range of professions and include academics, librarians,
documentalists, management consultants, government officials, IT specialists,
environmentalists, information scientists, journalists, lawyers, policy
makers, providers of information products and services, scientists, students
and trainees.
Our motto is ‘Information in the service
of Society' and we aim to achieve this in all aspects of our professional
programme.
